Failed to Upgrade the NIC Firmware on Intel x710 Adapters for RH5885 V3 Servers

Publication Date:  2019-04-17 Views:  298 Downloads:  0

Issue Description

The NIC Firmware on Intel x710 adapters fails to be upgraded for RH5885 V3 servers.

Handling Process

1. Verify that the NIC model and firmware version are correct.

2. Check whether the firmware can be upgraded for other server models in the same OS.

3. Replicate the problem based on the same configuration as that on the customer side. The replication fails when the firmware upgrade tool and EEUpdate are used in DOS and Linux. The problem is not caused by any upgrade tool.

The upgrade on another server in the lab is successful.

The comparison result shows that the BIOS versions are different.

4. Upgrade the BIOS to the latest version V817 and perform the firmware upgrade again. The problem is resolved.

Root Cause

The firmware upgrade failure is caused by BIOS version issues.

Upgrade the BIOS.
