Why the OS of V3 Servers Reports "Firmware Bug. the BIOS has corrupted hw-PMU resources"

Publication Date:  2019-04-23 Views:  26 Downloads:  0
Issue Description

The OS of an RH2288 V3 reports "Firmware Bug. the BIOS has corrupted hw-PMU resources."

The DEMT function is enabled in the BIOS.

Cause: MSR 38D is not explicitly reserved for the OS and can be used as a counter.

Certain OS like SUSE uses this register, but the BIOS DEMT function also needs to use this register. Therefore, the OS may generate this alarm, but this does not affect the operating of the OS.

Solution: Disable the DEMT function.
