OS Installation Using the Virtual CD-ROM Drive Fails on the RH2288 V3

Publication Date:  2019-04-23 Views:  215 Downloads:  0

Issue Description

The ISO image of the OS is normally mounted in the KVM virtual DVD-ROM drive on the BMC and the connection is normal. The HUAWEI DVD-ROM VM boot device is displayed when F11 is pressed. However, when the system boots from HUAWEI DVD-ROM VM, the system redirects to the PXE installation screen. Even if Huawei Toolkit is mounted to the virtual DVD-ROM drive, the PXE installation screen is still displayed.

Handling Process

1.     Check the ISO image to ensure that the image can be installed on other servers.

2.     Check whether the BMC software is normal. If yes, remove the BMC board and test it on another server.

3.     Check the BIOS configuration. It is found that HUAWEI DVD-ROM VM 1.1.0 225 is set to Forced FDD under the Advanced > USB Configuration menu.

4.     After the option is changed to Auto, the OS can be normally installed.

Root Cause

The HUAWEI DVD-ROM VM 1.1.0 225 option is changed to Forced FDD (USB FDD). As a result, the virtual CD-ROM drive is unusable.

Install the OS and check the BIOS settings. Set HUAWEI DVD-ROM VM 1.1.0 225 to Auto to ensure that the OS can be properly installed.

Note: If the ISO image is not mounted, HUAWEI DVD-ROM VM 1.1.0 225 is dimmed and cannot be modified. To modify this option, ensure that the ISO image or other mounting options are mounted.
