Due to Memory Alarms on an NE20E-S4 V800R007C10SPC100, Ping to the Local Address Fails

Issue Description

Version information: V800R007C10SPC100

Networking description: This scenario does not involve other interconnection devices. A patch file needs to be loaded for the device's memory alarms. After the PC is connected, however, the ping operation to the router address fails.

This networking does not involve the configuration script. Therefore, a patch file needs to be loaded. After the PC is connected to the router, commission the basic IP address.

Handling Process

1. Connect the PC to the router. It is found that the PC fails to ping the router's interface address, and the router fails to ping any of the local interface address.

2. Check the memory information on the slave main control board of the router.

3. Given that the live-network services are not affected, perform a master/slave board switchover (On an internal network, packet loss does not occur if the ping operation is often performed on the internal network addresses of other sites).

Before perform a master/slave switchover on the main control boards, run the slave switchover enable command to enable the forcible switchover function on the master and slave main control boards.

After the slave switchover command is run, the original master main control board is reset and changes to be in the slave state, and the original slave main control board takes over services to become the new master board.

After the slave switchover command is run, run the display switchover state command to check whether the master/slave switchover of the main control boards succeeds.

4. Check the memory usages of the master and slave main control boards. If the memory usages are below 40%, services are normal.

5. Use a PC to ping the router and install the patch NE20E-SV800R007SPH030.PAT to perform an upgrade.

2. If the master main control board becomes faulty, the system automatically performs a master/slave switchover. If the master main control board encounters an abnormality, such as threshold-crossing CPU usage or memory usage, a master/slave switchover is not implemented. In this case, run the slave switchover command to perform a master/slave switchover. After that, the memory resources of the master main control board are released. Then, install a patch on the device.

Solution

1. Before a master/slave switchover on the master and slave main control boards, run the slave switchover enable command to enable the forcible switching function on the master and slave main control boards.

2. Run the slave switchover command to perform a master/slave switchover on the master and slave main control boards.

3. The service traffic volume is light when operations are performed at night. In this case, direct monitoring cannot be performed. Run the ping command to perform a test. It is found that no packets are lost during the master/slave switchover of the main control boards.

Suggestions

During daily O&M, you are advised to install a stable patch on the device and view the alarm and log information on the device.
