Issue Description

The sound of the S7703's fan module is louder than that of the normal fan

Handling Process

1. Run the display health command. It is found that the fan speed reaches 70%, which is slightly higher than the normal speed. However, the temperature of each card is not high.

2. Run the display transceiver verbose command. It is found that the temperature of the optical module on GigabitEthernet1/0/20 exceeds 65°C.

3. The device adjusts the fan speed by monitoring the optical module temperature on the card. When the temperature of an optical module exceeds the upper threshold, the fan speed increases. When the temperature of optical modules falls below the lower threshold, the fan speed is reduced. By default, the fan speed is reduced when the temperature falls below 60°C and is increased when the temperature exceeds 65°C. When the temperature of the optical module on GigabitEthernet1/0/20 exceeds 65°C and the fan speed is increased to 70% of the speed, it is normal that the sound of the fan is louder.

 

You can also set the fan speed threshold according to the actual situation.
# Configure the device to increase the fan speed when the temperature of optical modules exceeds 67°C and decrease the fan speed when the temperature falls below 60°C.

Root Cause

When the temperature of the optical module on GigabitEthernet1/0/20 exceeds 65°C and the fan speed is increased to 70% of the speed, it is normal that the sound of the fan is louder.

Solution

When the fan speed is too high, you are advised to check whether the temperature of components such as cards and optical modules is normal. Pay attention to the components with high temperature and ensure that the equipment room has good heat dissipation.
