the space is not reclaimed in HCS backend storage

Issue Description

The issue is that customer has deleted 200 VMs but we didn't get the storage back. But we do not know how the customer find the space is not reclaimed. Customer did not tell us the more information.
So we do the same test to check if
storage space is  reclaimed or not.

Handling Process

we do the same test to check if storage space is  reclaimed or not.

1.     We create a VM, whose system disk size is 50GB.

Before create this VM, the physical used space is 105895GB, and virtual used space is 359234GB.

After create this VM, the physical used space is 105900GB (105895+5GB), and virtual used space is 359284GB(359234+50GB).  Although we create a VM whose system disk size is 50GB,
actually it uses only 5GB space in backend storage, because the disk is a thin LUN.

2. Before we delete this VM, we refresh this portal to get the latest physical used space size, because other customers are also writing data to this storage.

From the below screenshot, now the physical used space is 105902GB.

3. And then we delete this VM,  after delete, we can see that the physical used space is 105897 GB, 5G space reclaimed. In step1, after we create this VM, 5GB physical space is used. The two values are same. Meanwhile virtual used space is also back to 359234GB.

4.  By this test, we can conclude that the space is reclaimed after delete VMs.
5. We wait for 1-2 minutes, and find the physical used space increase by 1GB (to 105898GB), indeed other customers are also writing data to this storage. So I guess that is why customer think no Space reclamation, because when delete VMs, customers are also writing data into storage.

Suggestions

How to check the space usage of backend storage?

1.     Login to ServiceOM, and click “EVS”.

2. Select cascaded layer and backend storage, you can find its physical space usage and virtual space usage.
