FAQ: What Protection Technologies Require Static BFD to Trigger Process-PST?

Issue Description

What protection technologies require static BFD to trigger process-PST?

Handling Process

Root Cause

1. Process-PST is an action on the forwarding plane. When BFD triggers process-PST, the system adjusts the outbound PST of the forwarding entries. When process-PST of the primary forwarding entries is unavailable, process-PST of the backup forwarding entries is used to instruct forwarding.
2. When dynamic BFD is used, the system internally processes association between BFD and process-PST. No action is required.
3. Protection technologies that require static BFD to trigger process-PST include TE FRR, VPN FRR, IP FRR, LDP FRR, TE HSB, and TE tunnel protection group.

When static BFD is used to detect faults, protection technologies such as TE FRR, VPN FRR, IP FRR, LDP FRR, TE HSB, and TE tunnel protection group require  the BFD session to modify the port status table (PST).
