ME60 Fails to Manage Connected DSLAM Devices After Service Cutover Because BSUA Supports a Limited Number of ARP Entries

Issue Description

1. Version: V600R002C02SPC700 + SPC035
2. Networking description: The ME60 has a large number of DSLAM devices connected downstream and an NE5000E connected upstream.
3. Symptom: After services are migrated to the new BSUA on the ME60, the ME60 cannot manage DSLAM devices directly connected to subinterfaces of the ME60. The DSLAM devices can be pinged sometimes. After a trunk is established, the symptom becomes more severe.

Handling Process

Check the alarms on the ME60.

A large number of the preceding alarms are generated. The number of ARP entries on LPU3 exceeds the maximum value. The new card BSUA supports 4K ARP entries on the network side. When the number of ARP entries of the connected users exceeds 4K, traffic cannot be forwarded or ARP flapping occurs. If a trunk is created, more entries are replicated with the increase of member interfaces. The ME60 can manage fewer DSLAM devices. After the service cutover, the ME60 fails to manage a large number of DSLAM devices. The DSLAM devices can be pinged sometimes.

Root Cause



On the ME60, 48K user-mac entries are supported on the user side of BSUA. To use these user-mac entries and meet requirements of the live network, run the following command to configure static access on DSLAM devices:

Alternatively, you can use BSUF-21/MSUF-21 supported by the ME60 of V6R2. The BSUF-21/MSUF-21 support 16K ARP entries.


Before the upgrade or migration, check actual ARP specifications on the BSUA card during peak hours.
