The USM cannot Collect the Device Information Due to an SMM Board Active/standby Switchover

Publication Date:  2012-07-17 Views:  551 Downloads:  0
Issue Description
Barcodes cannot be exported on the USM on two E6000s at a certain deployment.
Alarm Information
Handling Process

1.          Switch the SMM board to the active state.

2.          View the barcode information on the USM. The barcode is displayed normally.

Root Cause
1.          Log in to one E6000 by using Telnet. The device barcode is displayed.
2.          Export the device information on the USM. The barcode in the exported information is blank.
Check the two SMM boards, and find that only one board is connected with a network cable and the board is in the standby state.
Assign a virtual IP address to the two SMM boards. The E6000 uses the virtual IP address for communication with the USM. The virtual IP address uses the active SMM board for data forwarding. When the active SMM board is not connected with a network cable, the E6000 cannot communicate with the USM.
You are advised to connect network cables to management network of both SMM boards to avoid such a problem.
