Why a Free Disk in the S2300 Fails to be Set as the Hot Spare Disk?

Publication Date:  2012-07-22 Views:  496 Downloads:  0
Issue Description
An S2300 controller enclosure with a D2300 disk enclosure is installed at a deployment site. One hot spare disk is to be configured on the controller enclosure and the disk enclosure respectively. The hot spare disk of the disk enclosure is successfully configured, but that of the controller enclosure fails.
Alarm Information
Handling Process
Step 1  Confirm with the site engineers that the hard disk is normal and free.
Step 2  Ask the site engineers to send back the captured screens of the configuration procedure (such as the hotspare.JPG in the attachment), and find out that the selected hard disk is in slot 0.
Disks in slots 0 to 3 are coffer disks that cannot be set as hot spare disks; therefore, a free disk in another slot must be selected.
Root Cause
Coffer disks cannot be set as hot spare disks. The hard disk to be set as a hot spare disk is just a coffer disk; therefore, the operation fails.
If you click a free disk on the OSM, a dialog box is displayed, but no Modify to Hot-Spare Disk button appears on the lower right corner, you should check whether the selected disk is a coffer disk.
