No new message in logbuffer with info-center enabled on S5700

Publication Date:  2013-03-26 Views:  2138 Downloads:  0
Issue Description
Logbuffer was not updating asfter configuring info-center with loghost option.
Alarm Information
output of display info-center was:

Log host:
x.x.x.x, channel number 4, channel name log,
language English , host facility local7, binary loghost, port number is x

Log buffer:
enabled, max buffer size 1024, current buffer size 512,
current messages 51, channel number : 4, channel name : logbuffer
dropped messages 0, overwritten messages 0
Handling Process
First step was to check if log messages were sent ot the loghost. Messages were recorded on the server so the problem clearly was due to misuse of info-center channels. To correct this we used channel 2 (default loghost channel) for the loghost configuration and channel 4 (default logbuffer channel) for the logbuffer. Command sequence can be found below:

info-center channel 2 name Name
info-center source default channel 2 log level notification
info-center loghost x.x.x.x channel 2 binary x
info-center logbuffer channel 4
Root Cause
The root cause of this issue was that the loghost and logbuffer used the same info-center channel.
Whenever possible use the default channel for their intended purpose (ex: channel 2 --> loghost). If it's not possible configure a custom channel instead of using a predefined one for a different info-center application.
