Creating an MD


IEEE Standard 802.1ag-2007 defines four formats for MDs:
  • no-md-name: The MAID field in outgoing CCMs does not carry the MD name.

  • dns-md-format-name: The MD information in the MAID of outgoing CCMs is a character string obtained from the DNS text.

  • mac-md-format-name: The MD information in the MAID of outgoing CCMs consists of 6-byte MAC address plus two-byte integer in the range of 0 to 65535.

  • string: The MD information in the MAID of outgoing CCMs is a character string.

Perform the following operations on the device where Ethernet CFM needs to be configured.


  1. Run system-view

    The system view is displayed.

  2. Run cfm md md-name [ format { no-md-name | dns dns-md-format-name | mac-address mac-md-format-name | string string-md-format-name } ] [ level level ]

    An MD is created and the MD view is displayed.

    By default, an MD is at level 0. Level 0 is the lowest level.

    Only IEEE Standard 802.1ag-2007 supports format, no-md-name, dns dns-md-format-name, mac-address mac-md-format-name, and string string-md-format-name.

    To create multiple MDs, repeat step 2. Up to 64 MDs can be created on a device.


    802.1ag packets from a lower-level MD are discarded when being transmitted through a higher-level MD, and 802.1ag packets sent to the MD of the same level are discarded or terminated. 802.1ag packets from a higher-level MD can be transmitted through a lower-level MD.
