Configuring a VRRP Group and Binding the VRRP Group to an mVRRP Group

Configuring a VRRP Group and Binding the VRRP Group to an mVRRP Group

Context

You can bind VRRP groups to an mVRRP group so that mVRRP determines the status of the bound VRRP groups.

Procedure

  1. Run system-view

    The system view is displayed.

  2. Run interface interface-type interface-number

The view of the interface where a VRRP group is configured is displayed.

  3. (Optional) On an Ethernet interface, run undo portswitch

The interface is switched to Layer 3 mode.

By default, an Ethernet interface works in Layer 2 mode.

  4. Run vrrp vrid virtual-router-id virtual-ip virtual-address

A VRRP group is created, and a virtual IP address is assigned to the VRRP group.

By default, no VRRP group is created.

Because the mVRRP group determines the status of its member VRRP groups, you do not need to set priorities for the member VRRP groups.

  5. Run vrrp vrid virtual-router-id1 track admin-vrrp interface interface-type interface-number vrid virtual-router-id2 unflowdown

The VRRP group is bound to an mVRRP group. A VRRP group can be bound to only one mVRRP group.

By default, no VRRP group is bound to an mVRRP group.

After the binding is complete, the state machine of the bound VRRP group depends on the status of the mVRRP group. That is, the bound VRRP group inherits the status of the mVRRP group, deletes its VRRP Advertisement packet timeout timer, and stops sending or receiving VRRP Advertisement packets. A VRRP group can be bound to only one mVRRP group.

    NOTE:

After a VRRP group is bound to an mVRRP group, VRRP Advertisement packets are not sent periodically. MAC addresses are updated based on ARP Reply packets for gratuitous ARP or from a gateway.
