Configuring Load Balancing in a Smart Link Group

Configuring Load Balancing in a Smart Link Group

Pre-configuration Tasks

Load balancing between the links in a Smart Link group can improve link efficiency.

Before configuring load balancing in a Smart Link group, configure basic functions of Smart Link.

Context

Usually, the standby link in a Smart Link group is idle and does not forward data traffic. To improve link utilization in a Smart Link group, you can configure a load balancing instance for the Smart Link group. Then the standby link transmits traffic of the VLANs mapped to the load balancing instance, and the active link transmits traffic of other VLANs. As the active and standby links transmit data traffic of different VLANs, traffic is shared between the two links.

Procedure

  1. Run system-view

    The system view is displayed.

  2. Run stp region-configuration

The MTS region view is displayed.

  3. Run instance instance-id vlan { vlan-id1 [ to vlan-id2 ] }&<1-10>

The mapping between an instance and VLANs is configured.

Instance 0 is the default instance and does not need to be created.

By default, all VLANs are mapped to instance 0.

    NOTE:

To configure the mapping between an instance and MUX VLAN, map the principal VLAN, and subordinate group VLANs and subordinate separate VLANs of the MUX VLAN to the same instance. Otherwise, loops will occur.

  4. Run active region-configuration

The MTS region configuration is activated.

The configured MST region name, VLAN mapping table, and MSTP revision level take effect only after the active region-configuration command is executed.

  5. Run quit

    Return to the system view.

  6. Run smart-link group group-id

The Smart Link group view is displayed.

  7. Run load-balance instance { instance-id1 [ to instance-id2 ] } &<1-10> slave

The load balancing instance is specified for the Smart Link group. This ensures that traffic of the VLANs mapped to the instance is transmitted through the standby interface to implement load balancing.

    NOTE:

The load balancing instance specified by the load-balance instance command must be in the protected instance list configured by the protected-vlan reference-instance command.

Verifying the Configuration

Run the display smart-link group { all | group-id } command to verify information about the Smart Link group.
