Feature Limitations

NSR has the following limitations:
  • The switchover time is not strictly controlled, because the switchover time is not the key performance index after the active/standby switchover of MPUs.
  • NSR cannot ensure high reliability of the system that has only one MPU.
  • If a fault occurs in the main process before the batch backup is complete, the slave process, whose status is unknown and is not switchable, cannot function as the main process.
  • The system enabled with NSR does not support system-level GR or ISSU.
  • On the device that performs the active/standby switchover of MPUs, the system supports two HA protection mechanisms: NSR and GR. NSR and GR cannot be used simultaneously. That is, during the active/standby switchover of MPUs, the system can use either NSR or GR for a specific protocol. When being deployed with NSR, a device can keep its neighbor relationship so that the device can help its neighbor complete GR. This ensures HA of services on all nodes of a network to maximum extent.
