GTP signaling can be functionally divided into the following types:

l Path management signaling: is used to manage status and versions of GTP paths.

l Tunnel management signaling: is used to manage GTP tunnels as well as add, modify, or delete PDP contexts.

l Mobility management signaling: is used to manage mobility management contexts of
subscribers.

l Location management signaling: is used to manage messages that are exchanged between the GGSN and the HLR (through the SGSN).
