Hierarchical Protocol Relation Between VRRP Management Groups and Backup Groups

A VRRP management group is equal to a logical layer over VRRP backup groups. VRRP backup groups exchange information between each other through VGMP packets, while VRRP backup groups interact with interfaces through traditional VRRP packets.

The hierarchical protocol relation between VRRP management groups and backup groups is shown in Figure 1

VRRP backup groups report their own states to the VRRP management group and are managed by it. When errors occur on certain interfaces or links in a backup group, the state of the backup group changes. In this case, the state of the backup group may affect that of the VRRP management group.
