Logical Structure

The MSPB0 provides six interfaces, which are named Debug, Update, Base1, Base2, Fabric1, and Fabric2. Figure 3 shows the positions of the six interfaces on the board.

In Figure 3,
Base1 and Base2 are network interfaces of the Base plane, Fabric1 and
Fabric2 are network interfaces of the Fabric plane, Debug is used for
debugging, and Update is used for the interconnection between two
MSPB0s.
The functions of the interfaces are as follows:


  • The Debug interface on the MSPB0 board can be used as a common Ethernet interface.
  • The
    Update interface of one MSPB0 is connected to the Update interface of
    the mated MSPB0 in point-to-point mode through the backplane, such as
    slots 11 and 13. The data exchanged between the Update interfaces is
    transmitted through the backplane,
    instead of the SWUs. The Update interface can be used to transmit
    heartbeat signals within a cluster.
  • The Base1 and Base2
    interfaces on all MSPB0s are connected to the Base interfaces on the
    SWUs in slots 6 and 7 through the backplane. Thus, the MSPB0s in
    different slots can exchange maintenance data through the SWUs.
  • The
    Fabric1 and Fabric2 interfaces on all MSPB0s are connected to the
    Fabric interfaces on the SWUs in slots 6 and 7 through the backplane.
    Thus, the MSPB0s in different slots can exchange service data through the SWUs.
