Scenarios

This operation guide describes how to activate the HSDPA, 2M-4M feature in live networks.

The high speed downlink packet access (HSDPA), 2M-4M feature enables subscribers to enjoy new services and fast download speeds. This feature enables the SGSN to support a maximum downlink rate of 4 Mbit/s.

Impact on the System

This operation has no adverse impact on the system.

Prerequisites

Conditions

  • The operator has logged in to Huawei Operation & Maintenance System (OMS).
  • This feature is an optional function of the USN9810. You need to load the license that supports this feature. The license control item is HSDPA, 2M-4M.
  • The radio network controller (RNC) and NodeB support the HSDPA, 2M-4M feature.
  • The mobile station (a mobile phone or a data card) supports the R99 and later versions.
  • The subscription information on the serving GPRS support node (SGSN), gateway GPRS support node (GGSN), and home location register (HLR) supports the maximum rate requested by subscribers.

Data

You do not need to prepare the data for negotiating with the peer NE or the data for the overall network planning.


Workflow

Figure 1 shows the flowchart for activating the HSDPA, 2M-4M feature.

Procedure

  1. Enable the function item associated with this feature.

    In the MML Command - USN9810 window, run:

    SET LICCTRL:PN=81201699,SWITCH=ON;

  2. Set the QoS version for the specified RNC.

    In the MML Command - USN9810 window, run:

    MOD RNC:RNCX=RNC index,RNCVER=RNC protocol version;

    • You do not need to enable the IP multimedia subsystem (IMS) function for the RNC.
  3. Set the QoS version for the specified GGSN.

    In the MML Command - USN9810 window, run:

    ADD GGSNCHARACT: RANGE=SPECIAL_GGSN, IPT=IPV4, GGSNIPV4=GGSN IPv4 address for control plane, MASKV4=IP MASK, QOSVER= QoS version in GGSN;

    IPv6 addresses are not supported. Therefore, IPT is always set to IPV4.
  4. Set the QoS version for the specified SGSN.

    In the MML Command - USN9810 window, run:

    ADD SGSNCHARACT: RANGE=SPECIAL_SGSN, IPT=IPV4, IPV4=SGSN IPv4 address for control plane, MASKV4=IP MASK, QOSVER=QoS version in SGSN;

    IPv6 addresses are not supported. Therefore, IPT (Ip address type) is always set to IPV4.
  5. Set the downlink rate and guaranteed downlink rate supported by the SGSN to 4 Mbit/s.
    1. Optional: All subscribers

      In the MML Command - USN9810 window, run:

      MOD IMSISMCHAR: SUBRANGE=ALL_USER, NTYPE=NET_NEGO_QOS,QOS2G=NO, QOS3G=YES,MBRDNLK3G=183,GBRDNLK3G=183;

      MBRDNLK3G (Maximum bit rate for downlink of 3G QoS) and GBRDNLK3G(Guaranteed bit rate for downlink of 3G QoS) to 183.

    2. Optional: Some subscribers

      In the MML Command - USN9810 window, run:

      ADD IMSISMCHAR: SUBRANGE=IMSI_PREFIX, IMSIPRE=IMSI Prefix, NTYPE=NET_NEGO_QOS, QOS2G=NO, QOS3G=YES, MBRDNLK3G=183,GBRDNLK3G=183;

      Set MBRDNLK3G(Maximum bit rate for downlink of 3G QoS) and GBRDNLK3G(Guaranteed bit rate for downlink of 3G QoS) to 183.

      Verification

      This section describes how to verify the feature by assuming that the configuration described in Example is successful.

      After this feature is configured on the related network elements (NEs), perform the following operations to check whether or not the feature is applied successfully:

      1. Create a subscriber trace task.
      2. Power on the mobile station (MS) and initiate an attach/activation request message.

        Expected result: The MS attaches to the network and is activated successfully.

      3. Make the MS log in to the File Transfer Protocol (FTP) server, and download data from the FTP server to the MS.

        Expected result: Data can be downloaded to the MS at around 4 Mbit/s at the application layer.


Example

Task Description Set the QoS versions of all GGSNs and SGSNs to R99 (Default value is R99QOS), set the QoS version of the specified RNC to R99, and set the downlink rate of the SGSN to the maximum value 183 (4 Mbit/s).
