After network devices are installed, connected, and powered on, they need to register with iMaster NCE-Campus for management. Then, iMaster NCE-Campus can deploy services, deliver configurations to these devices, and monitor them.

Two steps are required for network devices to register with iMaster NCE-Campus and go online:

1. In the Huawei public cloud or MSP-owned cloud scenario, network devices connect to the Internet. In the on-premises scenario, network devices are connected to the LAN and can reach the southbound IP address of iMaster NCE-Campus.
2. Switch the network devices to the cloud management mode, obtain the IP adress/URL and port number of iMaster NCE-Campus, and register the network devices with iMaster NCE-Campus.

   Some network devices can work in both traditional or cloud management mode. The traditional mode is applicable to the scenario where devices are managed and configured through the command-line interface (CLI) or web system. The cloud management mode is applicable to the scenario where devices are centrally managed and configured through iMaster NCE-Campus based on the SDN architecture.

   • Firewalls and APs can work in either the traditional mode or cloud management mode. They can be managed by iMaster NCE-Campus only after being switched to the cloud management mode.
   • In versions earlier than V200R019C00, switches can work in either the traditional mode or cloud management mode. Starting from V200R019C00, the two modes are integrated and switches can be managed by iMaster NCE-Campus without switching the mode.
   • Access routers (ARs) can only work in traditional mode and are functional as long as they support management by iMaster NCE-Campus.

   Therefore, the network devices that can switch to the cloud management mode in this document refer to firewalls and APs, not including switches and ARs. For details about how to switch the working mode of devices, see the registration and onboarding process in the following sections.
