BootROM provides the configuration restoration and software upgrade functions to ensure device security and implement basic device maintenance. The BootROM password is vital to device security; therefore you must keep it safely. If you forget the BootROM password, set a new password after you log in to the device by recovering the default password.

Connect a PC to the device with a serial cable and perform the following operations:

1. Recover the default password and restart the device.

   <Huawei> system-view
   [Huawei] diagnose
   [Huawei-diagnose] restore boot-password
   Info: Restore boot password success!
   [Huawei-diagnose] return
   <Huawei> reboot
   Info: The system is comparing the configuration, please wait. 
   Warning: All the configuration will be saved to the next startup configuration. 
   Continue ? [y/n]:y 
     It will take several minutes to save configuration file, please wait..........
     Configuration file had been saved successfully 
     Note: The configuration file will take effect after being activated 
   System will reboot! Continue ? [y/n]:y

2. Change the password in BootROM.

   Restart the device. When the message "Press Ctrl+B to break auto startup ..." is displayed, press Ctrl+B and enter the password to display the BootROM main menu.

   The default username and password are available in AR Router Default Usernames and Passwords (Enterprise Network or Carrier). If you have not obtained the access permission of the document, see Help on the website to find out how to obtain it.
