NE40E Troubleshooting Guide
Guide to Restarting a Device
This section guides you how to restart a device when a fault on the device causes services to be interrupted and the device fails to restart automatically.
- Restart the device with caution. If it is required to restart the device, go over the principles and precautions described in Chapter 1, or perform the restart operation under the guidance of Huawei technical personnel.
- Before the device is successfully restarted, all services on the devices are interrupted unless the dual-system hot backup networking is adopted.
When a critical fault occurs on the device during the equipment running, the device is automatically restarted. After the restart, the device runs normally. The device needs to be restarted manually only in emergency or exception, for example, services are interrupted because of the fault occurred on the device, and the device fails to automatically restart or recover by using other methods.
Preparations for the Restart
This section describes the preparations for the restart of the device.
Before restarting the device, confirm whether configuration files of the device need to be backed up. Configuration files should be backed up and executed automatically after the restart. In this case, services can be automatically resumed.
Guide to Restarting the Device
This section describes procedures and precautions of restarting the device.
Do not plug out and plug in the main control board to restart the device. Otherwise, the configuration will be lost.
- Running the reboot command
- Switching the system off and then on
- Operating through the NMS
You are recommended not to restart the device remotely. Otherwise, once the restart operation fails, services may be interrupted for a long period.
Checking Whether Configuration Files Are Correct
Run the display startup command to check whether configuration files are correct. For example:
<HUAWEI> display startup
MainBoard: Configured startup system software: cfcard:/VxxxRxxxCxx.cc Startup system software: cfcard:/VxxxRxxxCxx.cc Next startup system software: cfcard:/VyyyRyyyCyy.cc Startup saved-configuration file: cfcard:/vrpcfg.zip Next startup saved-configuration file: cfcard:/vrpcfg.zip Startup paf file: cfcard:/paf-VxxxRxxxCxx.bin Next startup paf file: cfcard:/paf-VyyyRyyyCyy.bin Startup patch package: cfcard:/VxxxRxxxCxxSPH001.pat Next startup patch package: cfcard:/VyyyRyyyCyySPH001.pat
SlaveBoard: Configured startup system software: cfcard:/VxxxRxxxCxx.cc Startup system software: cfcard:/VxxxRxxxCxx.cc Next startup system software: cfcard:/VyyyRyyyCyy.cc Startup saved-configuration file: cfcard:/vrpcfg.zip Next startup saved-configuration file: cfcard:/vrpcfg.zip Startup paf file: cfcard:/paf-VxxxRxxxCxx.bin Next startup paf file: cfcard:/paf-VyyyRyyyCyy.bin Startup patch package: cfcard:/VxxxRxxxCxxSPH001.pat Next startup patch package: cfcard:/VyyyRyyyCyySPH001.pat
VxxxRxxxCxx indicates the old version. VyyyRyyyCyy indicates the new version.
The displayed "vrpcfg.cfg" denotes the name of the current configuration file.
Running the reboot Command
Before manually restart device, run the reboot command on the configuration terminal.
Enter the reboot command in the user view and press Y after the display to restart the device. The operation example is as follows:
<HUAWEI> reboot Warning: Current configuration will be saved to the next startup saved-configura tion file! Continue? [Y/N]:Y Now saving the current configuration. Save the configuration successfully. System will reboot! Continue? [Y/N]:Y
The reboot command output varies with system versions. Take the command output of the current system version as the standard.
Switching the System Off and Then On
You can restart the device only in the following situation: when a critical fault occurs on the power supply system of the equipment room, causing the device to get power off, you need to switch the device off; when the power supply system of the equipment room recovers, you need to switch the device on.
The device cabinet can hold two AC or DC power modules. An AC power module cannot be used with a DC power module. You are recommended to configure two power modules working in 1+1 backup mode on the device.
The switch of the power module is located on the front panel of the power module. When the switch is placed at the OFF position, the power module is turned off; when the switch is placed at the ON position, the power module is turned on.
When the two power modules on the device work in backup mode, you need switch both the power modules off to turn off the power module and switch both the power modules on to turn on the power module.
Operating Through the NMS
Operation for restarting device differ from different type of NMS. For details, refer to the NMS Online Help.
Verification After the Restart
This section describes how to verify the device after the restart.
After the device is restarted, check that the configuration data is recovered correctly and completely. The loss of configuration data will result in the service interruption and you are therefore required to manually add the configuration data and save it.
Verifying the Restart Information
If you log in to the device through the console interface and restart the device by running the reboot command, the display on the configuration terminal after the restart is as follows:
<HUAWEI> reboot Warning: Current configuration will be saved to the next startup saved-configuration file! Continue? [Y/N]:y
Now saving the current configuration to the slot X .. Save the configuration successfully.
System will reboot! Continue? [Y/N]:y
The preceding information indicates that the device is properly started. After you press Enter, the user view can be displayed.
Checking Whether the Software Version Is Correct
Run the display version command to check whether the software version is correct.
Checking Whether Configuration Files Are Correct
Run the display startup command to check whether configuration files are correct. For example:
<HUAWEI> display startup
MainBoard: Configured startup system software: cfcard:/AAAAA.cc Startup system software: cfcard:/AAAAA.cc Next startup system software: cfcard:/AAAAA.cc Startup saved-configuration file: cfcard:/vrpcfg.zip Next startup saved-configuration file: cfcard:/vrpcfg.zip Startup paf file: cfcard:/paf-AAAAA.bin Next startup paf file: cfcard:/paf-AAAAA.bin Startup patch package: cfcard:/AAAAASPH001.pat Next startup patch package: cfcard:/AAAAASPH001.pat
SlaveBoard: Configured startup system software: cfcard:/AAAAA.cc Startup system software: cfcard:/AAAAA.cc Next startup system software: cfcard:/AAAAA.cc Startup saved-configuration file: cfcard:/vrpcfg.zip Next startup saved-configuration file: cfcard:/vrpcfg.zip Startup paf file: cfcard:/paf-AAAAA.bin Next startup paf file: cfcard:/paf-AAAAA.bin Startup patch package: cfcard:/AAAAASPH001.pat Next startup patch package: cfcard:/AAAAASPH001.pat
The displayed "vrpcfg.cfg" denotes the name of the current configuration file.
Solution to the Restart Failure
This section describes how to handle the failure in the restart of the device.
If the system fails to be upgraded, to ensure that the device operates normally, you need to roll back the version. For the rollback procedures, see the Upgrade Guide.
If any problem arises during the restart of the device, contact the local Huawei technical support personnel.
