Why Does a Manually Configured Radio Channel Not Take Effect?

Why Does a Manually Configured Radio Channel Not Take Effect?

In V200R006 and later versions, when a manually configured radio channel does not take effect, run the display channel switch-record command to check the channel switching reason.

Common reasons for the channel switching include:

  • Radio calibration

If the channel selection mode is not set to the fixed mode (that is, automatic channel selection is disabled) after a radio channel is manually configured, the AP uses the actual working channel of the radio instead of the manually configured channel after radio calibration to ensure that the radio works at optimal performance. As a result, the configured channel does not take effect.

To manually configure radio channels or avoid frequent channel changes caused by automatic adjustment (which may cause intermittent service interruption), run the calibrate auto-channel-select disable command to disable automatic channel selection.

    • Common Fat AP in V200R005 and earlier versions:

      [Huawei] wlan
      [Huawei-wlan-view] radio-profile name 80211b
      [Huawei-wlan-radio-prof-80211b] channel-mode fixed
    • Common Fat AP in V200R006 to V200R007:
      <Huawei> system-view
      [Huawei] wlan
      [Huawei-wlan-view] rrm-profile name default
      [Huawei-wlan-rrm-prof-default] calibrate auto-channel-select disable
    • Common Fat AP in V200R008 and later versions:

      [Huawei-wlan-view] rrm-profile name default
      [Huawei-wlan-rrm-prof-default] calibrate auto-channel-select disable
    • Fat central AP in V200R008 and later versions:
      <Huawei> system-view
      [Huawei] wlan
      [Huawei-wlan-view] ap-group name ap-group1
      [Huawei-wlan-ap-group-ap-group1] radio 0
      [Huawei-wlan-group-radio-ap-group1/0] calibrate auto-channel-select disable

      or

      <Huawei> system-view
      [Huawei] wlan
      [Huawei-wlan-view] ap-id 0
      [Huawei-wlan-ap-0] radio 0
      [Huawei-wlan-radio-0/0] calibrate auto-channel-select disable
  • Radar channel avoidance

If channels supported in a country or region overlaps with radar channels, radar channels must be avoided for APs. After the DFS function is enabled, an AP working on the 5 GHz band detects radar signals. Upon detecting radar channels, the AP automatically switches to another channel to prevent radar interference.
